The future official equipment for kiteboarding has been decided. Changes were made on boards and kites. The new rules already apply for the 2011 competitions.

So, the International Kiteboarding Association delegates (IKA) decided that racing will take place in an Open Division and in a Production Division.

Each kiteboarder will only be allowed to register one board and three kites at each event.

Board rules:

Max Length: 190 cm
Max Width: 70 cm
Max Fin Length: 50 cm (no change from current class rules)
Min Weight: 4 kg (for directional boards only)
Max Boards per event: 1

Kite rules:

Max Kite Size: 19 sqm (no change from current class rules)
Max Line Length: 45 m from bar to top of kite (no change from current class rules)
Max Kites per event: 3

IKA believes the limitation to box-rule restricted racing equipment will boost the sport and makes it affordable and accessible for a wider audience.
